What you can update
Through SPARSH, pensioners can update bank account details, family/Next of Kin (NOK) information, and Aadhaar linkage without visiting an office in person — all changes go through a verification step before taking effect.
Updating Next of Kin / family details
- Log in to SPARSH and navigate to the family/nominee details section.
- Upload supporting documents — typically Aadhaar, bank passbook, and address proof, in PDF or JPEG format.
- Submit the request. It's verified by the relevant authority before the change is reflected in your record.
Updating bank account details
You'll generally need: a copy of your PPO (optional but useful to include), your Aadhaar for KYC, and a cancelled cheque or the first page of your passbook for the new account. Because this involves inter-departmental verification, it's worth starting the process 2–3 months ahead of when you actually need the new account active, and confirming your Aadhaar is already linked to both your pension record and your bank account before you begin.
The most important thing to know: genuine SPARSH-related updates to your profile — including NOK, Aadhaar or PAN — are only ever initiated by PCDA through banks and Record Offices. If you receive an SMS or email with a link asking you to "update your SPARSH details," don't click it. The only official portal is sparsh.defencepension.gov.in, accessed directly, not through a link someone sent you.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a bank detail change take on SPARSH?
No fixed official timeframe is published — budget 2–3 months given the verification steps involved, and start the process well before you need the new account active.
What documents do I need to update my Next of Kin?
Typically Aadhaar, bank passbook, and address proof, uploaded as PDF or JPEG.
I got a text asking me to update my SPARSH profile — is it real?
Almost certainly not. SPARSH updates come through PCDA via banks and Record Offices, not unsolicited links. Go directly to sparsh.defencepension.gov.in instead of clicking any link sent to you.
